Developed in 1848, the Colt® Dragoon was issued in pairs as service firearms to members of the U.S. Army?s Mounted Rifles 1st Cavalry, the first of many units known as Dragoons. This revolver had a long and distinguished history in military and civilian service during the 1850s and 1860s, including its use in the Civil War. The Whitneyville Dragoon models feature an antique forged steel frame, roll engraved cylinder, large one piece antiqued walnut grip, antiqued parts, antiqued steel backstrap and brass triggerguard. The Whitneyville Dragoon was the first Dragoon model and has similar grip and frame features to the Walker revolver, the frame it was originally built on. A conversion cylinder is available for the Dragoon revolver that is a drop-in conversion to smokeless .45LC/.45Schofield ammunition.
