Open Top Revolver - 1851 Navy

Although it appears to be a conversion, the 1871-72 Open Top model was Colt’s® first revolver specifically manufactured to fire a centerfire cartridge by incorporating the loading gate in the frame. Since Colt® did not use percussion revolver parts, the revolver was manufactured as an entirely new model, first with Navy-sized grips, later with Army-sized grips. All Open Top revolvers come with a case-hardened forged steel frame, round barrel with front blade sight, modern ejector rod, and a rear sight notch on the rear of the barrel. The Navy version includes a brass backstrap and triggerguard with a smaller Navy grip. Inventory status may not reflect exact SKUs, please contact us to ensure immediate availability. Requires an FFL dealer to ship.

I waited almost 6 months for this gun due to it being on back order. Totally worth the wait. It's a beautiful piece that shoots extremely well. (Posted on 7/27/2019)

The screw holding the loading gate was not screwed in all the way and had to modify the screw to stay in without slowly working its way out.
Other wise action is solid and crisp. (Posted on 12/23/2018)

I am impressed with the quality of this revolver so far. My previous experience with black powder revolvers dates back to 1997 and I was disappointed with the quality of an 1862 Police received from the same manufacturer. It looks like quality has improved! This open top is a piece of art in my eyes. It was timed well from the factory and shot to point of aim at 25 yards with Oregon Trails 180 gr TC .38 caliber bullets. I am pleased with this purchase! (Posted on 4/16/2018)

My first Taylor import was a Richards & Mason 1860 Army Conversion in .38Spl with a 5 1/2" barrel. Most accurate .38 I have ever shot. Preriod! Bought this Early Model Open Top in the same barrel length and in .45Colt. The fit and finish is exactly as expected, perfect. On my range, with 250gr RNFP moderate loads, this weapon printed dead center at 15m with a two hand hold in a tight group. Not bad for an old man. Even better with a weapon that's not your ordinary revolver. Action is smooth and precise. There's no need for any "alterations" as some people feel they must do. Never figured that out. If it ain't broke.....

Well balanced. Great shooting. Good looking pistol. Historically accurate in details and fits the hand like it was custom made. What's not to like? (Posted on 3/30/2018)

.38LC, 4 3/4" barrel. This has the look and feel of the design that bridged the gap between the Navy and the 1873 SAA. Looking forward to the range next week. (Posted on 8/24/2017)

First 5 shots in the 10 ring at 21 feet! This firearm exceeds my expectations! I have been shooting handguns for 40 years both black powder and smokeless. This Navy's quality and accuracy is equivalent to my Rugers . (Posted on 7/31/2017)
