1860 Army Steel Fluted

The 1860 Army revolver was adopted as US government ordnance because of its lighter weight, improved balance, and superior ballistics. This 6-shot percussion revolver became very popular with mounted troops and went on to be the issued sidearm for the US Army for many years. The 1860 army steel fluted model features a steel frame, shoulder stock frame cuts and screws, round barrel, fixed front blade sight, ratchet style loading lever, rebated cylinder with half fluting, brass backstrap and brass triggerguard, and an Army sized walnut grip. A conversion cylinder is available for this model that is a drop-in conversion to smokeless .45LC/.45Schofield ammunition. This revolver is great fun to shoot - I like the balance of the shorter barrel. Taylors' service is great! (Posted on 8/3/2019)

I ordered one of these a couple of weeks ago. On arrival I was concerned to see that the cylinder was badly scratched & scraped before it was shipped. I returned the revolver to Taylor's for installation of a new cylinder, which took only a week from start to finish. I never noticed until I looked closely at the repaired gun that the box labels it a "Sheriff's Model". $307 is a great price for a fluted-cylinder version of the Colt 1860 no matter what size the grip. recently received this revolver. fired it with 20 grains (more or less) of 3F and #10 caps with no problems of any kind. Recoil was quite mild, and accuracy was good. a really fun time … I have to get some spare cylinders! (Posted on 7/21/2019)
1860 Sheriff a nice well balanced gun. Review by Mark Townsend

This is a nice bobbed-barrel version of the Colt 1860 Army, with semi fluted cylinder. Two things of note: some claim the cylinder of the 1860 never came in a semifluted version, only a full fluted version. In fact Colt offered the 1860 with this type of cylinder on a special order basis. Another; Taylor's photo appears to show a cylinder styled as was the .36 caliber 1862 Metropolitan Police revolver's cylinder (a 5 shot model) was. The actual gun does not have that style fluting, it has the same flutes as its long-barreled brother has.
But it is still a nice gun. (Posted on 5/29/2018)

Very nice revolver. Quite happy with it. I did find one little machining defect on the cylinder but it is hard to see and isn't worth returning the piece. Timing is perfect and revolver is nice and tight. Fits the hand very well and balances naturally, better than the 1858 Remingtons I have. Thinking about buying another one. (Posted on 3/25/2018)

My first purchase from Taylor's was a very good experience. The folks there were knowledgeable, helpful, and quick to answer my emails concerning my purchase. I bought the pistol and conversion cylinder at the same time and Taylor's gunsmith made sure of a good fit. Everything was received as ordered, promptly, and in perfect condition. I am very happy with the Pietta. It's a great copy of an American classic Colt firearm. (Posted on 12/12/2017)

This was my first purchase through Taylor's as I get back into black powder revolvers. I have always been the other brand guy, but find myself very happy with my first Pietta. While the gunsmith in me will no doubt make refinements, this gun was an awesome value and ready to go out of the box. Taylor's service was swift and efficient and they will be my go/to for the many more BP revolvers I plan to buy. (Posted on 1/21/2017)
