1858 Remington Stainless Checkered

The Colt 1836 patent expired in 1857, and the next year, Remington introduced a solid-frame design that was both elegant and reliable. The 1858 Remington became so famous that it was the prevailing choice of military officers following the Civil War. Its full-frame design still makes it a top choice for black powder shooters today as the cylinder can be removed without taking the firearm completely apart, unlike the Colt models. The stainless remington features a stainless steel frame and parts, brass triggerguard, octagonal barrel, fixed front blade sight, walnut checkered two-piece grips, and an engraved cylinder with safety notches cut in the top. A conversion cylinder is available for this model that is a drop-in conversion to smokeless .45LC ammunition. I have had a 9" stainless for quite awhile, timed to conversion to .45LC, like it so much ordered a 5.5" stainless, also timed to a fluted conversion, both in checkered grips.
I really like the feel of the New Army Remington.

this is the second of a pair for me. this one had no problems and earns 5 stars in all categories. these are beautiful, good-shooting revolvers! i'd been waiting a while to find pietta remingtons with 5-1/2" barrel in stainless! (Posted on 9/13/2017)

just ordered my second stainless sheriff's model. only one small problem with the first one; thus 4 stars: a small burr in the frame where threads for trigger/bolt spring screw . it dragged on the cylinder. a little file work took care of it. this thing is a real good shooter. it likes 30 grains of 777 and a .454 ball. shoots to p.o.a. i have several '58s and find that the piettas are more accurate! thinking about a conversion cylinder? it's a good idea. then you can shoot indoors--but these things do shoot lead balls much better!
