C. Mason Revolver – 1851 Navy

With patents for the conversion of percussion revolvers, Colt® employees Charles Richards and William Mason cut off the cap-and-ball cylinders at the back and installed a conversion ring to accept cartridges. These conversion revolvers were favorites then and are enjoying popularity again as favorite reproductions. The Navy version of the C. Mason revolvers features a brass backstrap and triggerguard, octagonal barrel with brass post front sight, and a smaller-size Navy grip. All C. Mason models feature a case-hardened forged steel frame, blued finish parts, modern ejector rod, and hammer with notched rear sight. Requires an FFL dealer to ship. No problem with Taylor Firearms. My problem is with the Uberti guality on this model. My 1873 conversion works perfectly. This Navy model is very difficult to unload. The ejector rod does not slide through the cylinder at half cock like my 1873 conversion does. I need to continually rotate the cylinder back and forth until the ejector rod fits. Needless to say, it creates a decidedly different experience while shooting. (Posted on 7/11/2019)

I own two 7 1/2 inch of the same type but not the same model. Hard to believe the accuracy of the 5 1/2 barrel. Never have I shot so well with any revolver that I have as this model #926. My only complaint is that it will not take all the 38spl. The Armscor 158 grain FMJ jams the cylinder as the round is a slight longer than a lead round nose or a flat point. I do not want to alter the gun in any way as I do not wish to change the accuracy in it. It is a very comfortable grip and not that heavy. I can live with the Armscor not working and possible other FMJ also not working. The screws on this #926 get loose very easy so I used Lock Tight on some. I will by a whole new set as reserve. Uberti should give you a extra set for the price you pay. I like the revolver and it does take a little time to get used to it as all firearms do. Tolerances are very tight in it and the gun is very solid. Even more than a Ruger.

(**Uberti does not recommend any jacketed ammo be used in this model) (Posted on 8/30/2017)

I've owned an earlier model, used primarily as a prop gun, and wanted to pick up a 2nd and see if they'd work as Cowboy Action match guns. On the 2nd gun, wanted to try the 4 3/4 barrel, but wasn't expecting too much. Was very surprised to find that this gun is deadly accurate. Of all my Cowboy Action guns, this one allows me to get the most accurate groupings. Out of the box it is reasonably smooth. Now that I know how accurate it is I plan to invest in an action job. I'm impressed. Good product. (Posted on 12/16/2015)
