Pietta 1858 Remington .44 Revolver Stainless Steel Conversion Cylinder

This conversion cylinder converts stainless steel Pietta 1858 remington revolvers from .44 black powder to .45LC/.45Schofield smokeless ammunition. Taylor's does not recommend shooting ammunition rated above 850 fps in this conversion cylinder. Reloading/loading is done by removing the cylinder and then removing the cylinder cap from the cylinder. The cylinder contains 6 firing pins retained by threaded doughnuts. The cap is reinstalled by lining up the hole in the cap with the silver guide pin on top of the cylinder. If shooting black powder ammunition the firings pins must be removed and cleaned to avoid corrosion. The finish option of fluting is available to have flutes cut into the body of the conversion cylinder or to have a smooth cylinder with no fluting. No frame modification is needed, although minor fitting may be required due to gun manufacturer variations. Cylinders ship separate from firearms purchases.

1858 SS New Army's & Fluted Cylinder's Review by Duke

I have to admit, I can be a royal pain in the butt! However, the service at this shop is outstanding! I have the privilege to possess two 1858 SS with the conversion cylinders. Had the 9" about a decade now.
I liked it so well that I went with the 5.5 with checkered grips. Also picked up another set of checkered grips which with some minor fitting, look and function great! (The older pistol has a slightly larger frame) I also went with a fluted cylinder. After having both guns timed, the conversions are interchangeable between the two pistols. Pricey, yes, but I am very happy with the Pietta's! They shoot true and are not problematic at all. I keep the velocity below 800 fps and all is good. :) (Posted on 9/12/2019)

Ordered the stainless steel conversion cylinder for an Pietta 1858 Remington 44. The cylinder was delivered promptly after the order was placed. Installed in gun to find it did not work properly. It would not sequence from chamber to chamber. Called Taylor and talked to their service department and they suggested something easy for the fix. Some simple filing of a hand had the cylinder operating properly. Very happy with my experience with Taylor and the conversion cylinder was a worthwhile investment.

Many reviewers Review by Rick

Many reviewers have mentioned how well the cylinder fit their revolver but the stainless steel cylinder I ordered was way too tight and would not rotate. Perhaps it was because my stainless Pietta revolver (with adjustable sights) was an old version and dimensions may have been altered over time. I have returned it for a refund because it was so tight (not too long, but slightly a larger diameter than my factory cylinder) that there was no way to fit it without altering the firearm, in my experienced opinion. I now have two of these conversions and love them. They installed with no fitting at all and worked as advertized right from the getgo. I also like that I have two dual purpose revolvers. Both are 44 calibers and I plan to add a 36 caliber in the near future. (Posted on 4/21/2018)

Fit my stainless Pietta perfectly. Timing was spot on and she locks up tight. I'm getting close to 70,and thought I'd add some flash to my life. A little spendy, but nice things are. This is a very well made piece of machine art. (Posted on 11/29/2016)

This is my 3rd conversion cylinder, 2nd from Taylor, 1st stainless. The quality is amazing. I am anal about dimensions on gun cylinders and bores. This cylinder is very precisely made. Overall finish is beautiful. This is my first stainless conversion cylinder and the price is quite a bit more than the exact same cylinder in blued finish. I suppose it's the nature of the beast. Having it in hand offsets the sting of the price and I find I really have no regrets. It fit into my Pietta perfectly, no fitting required. If you want a conversion cylinder for your Pietta or Uberti, look no further, just buy and enjoy. (Posted on 6/30/2016)

My Pietta SS .44cal BP revolver was almost 30 years old when I purchased this cylinder. The cylinder functioned flawlessly from the start. I had no trouble inserting the cartridges into the cylinder, or the cylinder into the gun. I have fired over 350 rounds using this cylinder and it functioned perfectly. You do need to monitor the tightness of the ferrules, as they may loosen after awhile. The cylinder is easy to clean and maintain. It is great fun to pull out my BP revolver at the range, load cartridges into it and watch the reaction of my friends. Great product... it has turned my BP revolver into a fully functioning .45cal LC firearm.

I received the conversion cylinder for my Remington 44 SS and the quality and fit of the cylinder was excellent. I bought a couple boxes of 45 LC and went to my shooting range and was very pleased at how the gun shot and the ease of re-loading. Cartridges came out of the cylinder with no problem and the cylinder fit the gun with the precision of a quality product. The gun was, of course, much cleaner than shooting black powder and I suspect I will be shooting more 45 LC's than cap/ball black powder. I will be ordering the ferrule removal tool and some extra ferrules in the future, not that I see reason for either right now, but when I need them, I'll have them. (Posted on 12/12/2015)

I have owned this cylinder for several years, and it works wonderfully well in my 1858 SS Pieta revolver. This has become my favorite gun to bring to the range, and gets great compliments when I load it with Cowboy ammo instead of black powder. (Posted on 12/10/2015)
