1858 Remington Conversion

This Remington Conversion is a perfect reproduction from the historic period when popular black powder revolvers were being converted into cartridge revolvers. Although manufactured as a an already converted cartridge revolver, these copies still feature an easy transition from blackpowder to centerfire cartridges on the .45LC caliber models. The Remington Conversion in .45LC allows a shooter to switch from .45LC to .44 black powder by removing the breech plate, cartridge cylinder, and replacing them both with a spare black powder cylinder (available as a spare part from Taylor's A1014005). Along with the original conversion design, these revolvers retain other original features: the forged frames are dovetailed to allow the loading gate assembly to slide into place and a modern ejector rod incorporated into the original black powder loading lever with a small notch cut into the loading lever itself. The revolvers are available with a two-piece walnut grip, octagonal barrel, blued finish, and brass triggerguard. Wonderful hands on pistol Review by KurtZG

The Remington Conversion is a beautifully made Pistol with a fantastic finish I was very impressed with its construction and quality. I Finally was able to take the Remington conversion to the range where I found that it shoots on the high side comparatively to the smoke wagon which is point and shoot and its dead on. Not a huge problem just adjusted my line of sight and was able to get fairly tight groups at 25 and 50 feet. (Posted on 5/28/2019)

Very tight fit and finish from Uberti and good quality control from Taylors.

Well executed engineeering was important in 1858 for a firearm your life might depend upon, and it's still important now.

This firearm demonstrates that those that came before us were intelligent and resourceful, and made sound technical and economic decisions as technology and circumstances changed around them.

As a retired military officer, completely re-entering the civilian world after 35 years, the 1858 Remington Conversion firearm speaks to me, beyond the great satisfaction of sending .45 Colt rounds downrange. It's a metal device you can hold in your hand that helps connect us to everyone who came before us and did what had to be done.

The 1858 Remington New Model Army black powder cap and ball revolver was converted to fire brass cartridges to meet new requirements and to remain useful, as we ourselves are called upon to change to meet new requirements and to remain useful. (Posted on 3/27/2019)
I really like this firearm because it’s very similar to the old New army but a problem was that they didn’t make it capable of shooting .357 magnum which made me disappointed besides that being a problem over is a firearm that will last Review by Nick

I did a LOT of research on this before my purchase. I'm sooooooo tired of the same old, same old in 1873-type revolvers. So I am always on the lookout for something different. This is that for sure. I'm really impressed with the metal to metal fit and the finish is very nice. One problem I have is that the wood grips over hang the metal and in two places, is very sharp. The support team at Taylor's says they can't help since the grips are all hand-fit in Italy only, so I'm going to have to sand them down to fit and refinish. Not a huge deal, but something to think about on your next purchase. These grips should not have gotten past the quality team. (Posted on 9/12/2017)
Perfect for using in Cowboy Fast Draw with the gated cylinder. Great value compared to a Ruger Vaquero. Review by Steve

From the first emails I traded with account manager, to holding the gun in my hand, working with Taylor's has been a first rate experience. It is a quality reproduction, down to the smallest detail. I haven't fired it yet, and it is honestly so beautiful I'm not sure I want to. Yet. But I'm gonna. Thanks, Taylor's! (Posted on 6/16/2017)
