Major George Schofield designed the first break-open pistol that could be operated with one hand. Ideal for a mounted soldier in the U.S. Cavalry, this new design allowed shooters to eject all six spent cartridges and easily reload while on horseback. This pistol also proved useful for outlaws such as Jessie James, John Wesley Harden and Wild Bill Hickok.
